THE TIME IS NOW

If there's always tomorrow
But tomorrow isn't here yet
And we just want to leave
Yesterday in the past
But yesterday hasn't arrived yet
Then where does that leave
Us now?
Stuck in a timeless limbo
For eternity?
Does eternity disregard time?
Is every second wasted if we
Leave it in the past anyway?
Does the future even matter if
We can't see it yet?
Or
Are we so busy thinking about
Mistakes that we have made
And mistakes that we haven't
Even made yet
That we forget about now?
I think so.

MR COHEN, IS THIS IT?

THIS IS IT by Leonard Cohen

This is it
I'm not coming after you
I'm going to lie down for half an hour
This is it
I'm not going down
on your memory
I'm not rubbing my face in it any more
I'm going to yawn
I'm going to stretch
I'm going to put a knitting needle
up my nose
and poke out my brain
I don't want to love you
for the rest of my life
I want your skin
to fall of my skin
I want my clamp
to release your clamp
I don't want to live
with this tongue hanging out
and another filthy song
in the place
of my baseball bat
This is it
I'm going to sleep now darling
Don't try to stop me
I'm going to sleep
I'll have a smooth face
and i'm going to drool
I'll be asleep
whether you love me or not
This is it
The New World Order
of wrinkles and bad breath
It's not going to be
like it was before
eating you
with my eyes closed
hoping you won't get up
and go away
It's going to be something else
Something worse
Something sillier
Something like this
only shorter

I SAID SOMETHING WRONG

I find shelter, in this way
Under cover, hide away
Can you hear, when I say?
I have never felt this way

Maybe I had said, something that was wrong
Can I make it better, with the lights turned on
Maybe I had said, something that was wrong
Can I make it better, with the lights turned on

Could I be, was I there?
It felt so crystal in the air
I still want to drown, whenever you leave
Please teach me gently, how to breathe

And I'll cross oceans, like never before
So you can feel the way I feel it too
And I'll mirror images back at you
So you can see the way I feel it too

Maybe I had said, something that was wrong
Can I make it better, with the lights turned on
Maybe I had said, something that was wrong
Can I make it better, with the lights turned on

Maybe I had said, something that was wrong
Can I make it better, with the lights turned on

UNIFORMITY

Isn't repetition and uniformity fun? Last night i went and saw Antony and the Johnsons at the Sydney Opera House (gush) and after the show, somehow became so mesmerized by the uniformed state of the male toilets.

I've always loved tessellations (as made popular by none other than the man himself, Escher), and to me, in the photo below, the basins create an amazing linear tessellation.

Oh, and did i mention that i was disgustingly intoxicated at this point? Therefore i completely understand if you are unable to understand or appreciate my strange gratitude for a certain bathroom.

Oh, and i did try and take some photos of Antony while he was playing, however i've never seemed to get my head around the sour combination of intoxication and cameras.
But here is what i got, a beautiful light explosion! (no Antony though)

DEPECHE PLAY

In 1990, Depeche Mode released a track titled "Enjoy the Silence", and made an aesthetically beautiful promotional music video to go with it.

In 2008, Coldplay released a track called "Viva la Vida". They released two music videos for the track, the first which was a rather predictable commercial band style video, and the second being an interpretive remake of the original "Enjoy the Silence" music video, directed by Anton Corbijn who also directed the original, as a tribute to Depeche Mode.

Below are stills from both versions, which are in my eyes equally magnificent.

YOKO

Yoko Ono is one of the most beautiful people that has ever existed. She's experienced so much in her life, so much negative, yet still remains so positive and determined, and so sure of all that she hopes for, not only for herself, but for every living being: health, peace, & joy.

Everything that she says, and does, through words and through visual representation, comes from her heart, and is aimed at making some sort of an impact on the world. I think Yoko understands that it is hard to change people, and the planet, so instead she focuses on simply asking people to love each other, to have respect for other people and our planet, and to ultimately live together in honesty and in peace.

In 2007, the Imagine Peace Tower was constructed in Reykjavik in Iceland, as a result of Yoko's initiative and determination. It was something that Yoko had invented on her conceptual "Sales List" of 1965, and had only ever dreamed of creating, until a few years ago when it was finally built.

Every year, people post/email/tweet their wishes for the world, that are the buried in the surrounds of the Imagine Peace Tower, and each year between October and December, the light beams high up into the universe and, in Yoko's words, expresses the wishes to the universe.

Below is an affirmation for this year 2010, written by Yoko Ono. If you read this, you will feel grateful, for everything.

AFFIRMATION FOR 2010
by Yoko Ono

I would like you to share an affirmation with me.
Think it, say it, with firm belief,
knowing that we are all one.

In the name of truth, peace and love:
Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Our planet is healthy and whole,
We, the people of Earth
See clearly, Hear clearly, Think clearly.
Make the right judgement, right decision and the right move
For the benefit of our planet and others.

We are now bathing in the light of Dawn,
Standing in the Heaven we have created together,
Sharing the Joy
With all Lives on Earth
And of the Universe,

As we are all one, united with infinite and eternal love.

For the highest good of all concerned, So be it.

Happy New Year
love, yoko

BEAT BEAT BEAT

I don't really like much music from the 80's, with exception of a few bands. I'm more into 90's music (as you would most definitely know if you've ever seen me DJ).

However, one of my favourite bands of all time would have to be Bronski Beat, an all gay synth pop trio who made their big break in 1984 with their hit debut single 'Smalltown Boy'.

(Photo below rules - Hear no Evil, Speak no Evil, See no Evil!)

If you've ever heard the song, or are an existing gigantic Bronski Beat fan, you would know what the song can do to you. When i'm driving in my car, listening to 'Smalltown Boy', my heart starts racing and i feel like i've got 10 times more control than i actually do.... the traffic lights change in time with the song, and the other cars on the road are doing some seriously impressive choreographed dancing - swerving in an out of lanes like we're all part of the same routine..... i'm sure you can picture it (and if you can't, then get an imagination).

See the original film clip for 'Smalltown Boy' below:

My point being, it's a fucking amazing and uplifting track. And it's all about a teenage boy being kicked out of home for being gay. These guys were setting an example for gay youth of the 80's, and everyone loved them - 'Smalltown Boy' reached No. 3 on the UK charts after it's released.

My Dad's actually seen Bronski Beat before, and he was the one who introduced me to them, and passed his controversially titled Bronski Beat album 'The Age of Consent' down to me. The title represents the inequality between heterosexuals and homosexuals - in the 80's in the UK, hetero couples could have sex at 16, however gay couples had to wait until they were both 21 or over. This was nearly 30 years ago, and still nothing has changed. In Australia, the age of consent for hetero couples is 16 and for gay couples it is 18. Anyway, i'm getting a little too socio-political.

After a short lived success, the bands lead singer, Jimmy Somerville, departed Bronski Beat in 85 and moved on to head The Communards - another hugely successful group from the 80's. He then moved on to a bit of a flop of a solo career.

Anyway, hail to Bronski Beat, wherever you are.

ANTONY EYES

This man is one of a kind and truly magnificent.
I started listening to Antony and The Johnsons about a year and a half ago when my Mum introduced me to their albums.

Antony Hegarty has worked with the likes of Boy George, Lou Reed, Bjork, Leonard Cohen and Devendra Banhart.
If you're yet to hear A
ntony's operatic vocals and oh so honest lyrics, then click along to www.antonyandthejohnsons.com

I just heard a cover version of 'Crazy in Love' by the one and only Beyonce. The sound is so beautiful, as is the accompanying video which begins with static green lit footage, followed by other various footage of Antony. Please watch below.

My favourite part is when Antony sings "looking so crazy, your love's got me looking, looking so crazy in love" and the pink lit eyes appear in the video. See below.

Antony and The Johnsons are playing at the Sydney Opera House on January 31st and February 1st.
And at the Perth Con
cert Hall on February 5th and 6th.
